The lovely Egyption Queen Cleopatra first made love to Marc Antony on a carpet of rose petals. Cleopatra soaked the sails of her ship in Jasmine and Rose perfume so that the scent of the lovely blend on the seas alerted her lover of her impending arrival, long before her ship could be seen. Antony fell under her spell and in fact was so in love with her, that he killed himself upon hearing a false report that she was dead.
According to legend, Rose Essential Oil was discovered when Nour-Djihan, a Persian princess, married Mogul Emperor Dhihanguyr. The canals around the wedding party had been filled with rose water, and as her and her lover enjoyed the waters in a small boat, she noticed a thin film on its surface – Rose Essential Oil. Its aroma has been interlaced with human history ever since, lending its radiance and grace to perfumes and inspiring poets and lovers.
Roses have an amazing history. 35 million year old fossilized rose flowers and hips have been found in Europe and petrified rose wreaths have been unearthed from ancient Egyptian tombs.
A fragrant emblem of love, jasmine flowers are often entwined into bridal flowers at Indian weddings. This custom is said to promise the bridle couple a deep and lasting affection for eternity.
Essential oils really are amazing. They have impacted our lives today in so many ways, and have so many uses. Try evoking some love and sensuality this Valentine's Day, whether it be sipping an intoxicating Jasmine Tea, soaking in a bath with Jasmine and Rose essential oils, or simply taking the time to smell the roses.
